This past summer, I went to Hungary for my third trip there.  This visit was special both because it marked the 10 year anniversary of my first trip, and, more importantly, because I got to attend my cousin’s wedding!  As is always the case when I visit my relatives in Hungary, the trip was full of gorgeous sights, enlightening experiences, great conversations, and bottomless generosity.  And the pálinka never stopped flowing!  Here are some of my favourite shots from the trip:

These are some scans of black and white prints from my first trip to Hungary.  The last few shots are from August 11, 1999, when we all got together to watch the solar eclipse from Lake Balaton.  You can see some eclipse glasses on the stair in the second last photo.

Introducing my beautiful cousin Kiersten.  Kierst and I had been talking about getting together to take some shots of her for months now, but living in different cities made it hard to get together.  By chance, we happened to be visiting Vancouver at the same time this past may, so after spending a day lying on the beach, we decided to work in a last-minute photo session.  A combination of fantastic natural lighting and Kiersten’s effortless grace and poise yielded these results.

I have been scanning all of my negatives over the last little while, both for archival purposes and to move away from darkroom work altogether (no more chemicals, long waiting times, or water running constantly — yay environment!).

These are some images from San Miguel de Allende and from a wedding that I attended there.  You’ll see that some of them are very grainy – those are the ones that I was unable to get good-quality prints from when I was processing them in the darkroom.  With the negative scans, the image quality is slightly better, and it’s easier to recover lost data in Photoshop than it is in the darkroom.
